Sarah
Beazley
Sarah
has worked with deaf people since 1983. She organised
a specialist service in Leeds and then worked at
Leeds Polytechnic, Manchester Polytechnic and Manchester
University as a lecturer and clinician. She was
a Speech Therapy Advisor at the Royal National Institute
for the Deaf (RNID) for a period, and has been regular
tutor on Introduction to Working with Deaf People:
Part One and Part Two courses. From 1993 to 2006,
Sarah worked in a freelance capacity, teaching in
the field of deafness on a range of undergraduate,
postgraduate and professional courses; providing
clinical support and advice in Leeds and Liverpool;
and teaching on a postgraduate course in Psychology
and Disability Studies at The Manchester Metropolitan
University. Sarah is now employed by Liverpool Community
Health working as a consultant speech and language
therapist across Cheshire and Meresyside and also
by The University of Manchester as a senior clinical
teaching fellow on the BSc (Hons) Speech and Language
Therapy course, having particular responsibility
for the unit in clinical phonetics as well as contributing
to the postgraduate diploma in Deaf Education. Recently,
Sarah has done some volunteer work in Jordan with
the Iraq Refugee Fellowship Programme http://www.academic-refugees.org/Iraq-Programme.asp
and is now forging links with disability organisations
in the Middle East region. Sarah is a Reviews Editor
for the international journal 'Disability and Society'
and has written many publications in the area of
deafness and disability
