Ann
Parker
Ann is a freelance consultant in Higher Education
and a Fellow of RCSLT. Before moving into university
teaching, she practised as a speech and language
therapist for many years, developing the first specialist
speech and language service for deaf children with
the Inner London Education Authority in the early
1970s. Ann was the first national Speech Therapy
Adviser at the RNID, and later became Head of the
RNID Language and Communication Division, co-founding
the RCSLT Advanced Specialist course (ASC) for therapists
specialising in deafness, which then became a specialist
route for the MSc at City University. She has retired
from her full time Senior Lectureship at UCL to
develop her freelance consultancy and training work,
and now works internationally in a range of university
settings teaching undergraduate and postgraduate
students as well as lecturers and clinical teachers.
Ann's current specialist work includes a range of
courses and workshops on clinical and university
teaching, and she also teaches applied phonetics
to undergraduates, practising SLTs and other communication
workers in the field of deafness. She is the author
of PETAL, the specialist speech assessment for use
with deaf children and adults.
